Before you can start bombarding you blog with widgets, plugins and other stuffs, you better fill in the spaces first with the basic neccesities. I've made a list of these things. Hope it could help.

Recent Posts – Enables your readers to check out the latest of your articles even if they are already not found on your home page. Also, this provides a quick overview and aids your readers from doing all that scroll downs. For Blogspot blogs, an easy way to add this widget is to add a feed element. Type in http://YourBlogName.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default for the feed url.

Recent Comments – Almost the same function as the recent posts widget. Recent comments widget tells your readers your recent feedbacks and to what posts are striking up discussions among the readers. Somehow, it encourages comments too. Again for Blogspot blogs, just add a feed element with http://YourBlogName.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default as the feed url. Hit save and you’re good to go.

Top Commentators – The main purpose of top commentators widget is to rewards your most loyal commentators and again, to encourage more comments. It’s also a good way of displaying your gratitude. For

wordpress users, you can have the top commentators plugin. Speaking of wordpress users, don’t forget to turn on your comment spam killer using your Akismet key (did I spell that right?). I have little knowledge on wordpress so even if I do want to help, you guys need to do a little research yourself.

Related Posts – This one is a very useful tool to encourage your readers to read more of your articles. Related Posts helps a lot in guiding your readers to other articles with connection to those that they have just finished reading. It’s also a good way to resurface old posts in your blog.

Recent Viewers – You can get this widget from your blogging community. I know only two- MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog (I haven’t checked if FuelMyBlog have one, though I think they do). MyBlogLog recent viewers widget are more stylish if you ask me. But I still use BlogCatalog widget for the reason that I’m more active at BlogCatalog and I have more viewers coming from there (and friends too!).
