Just like a favicon, banners help a lot in making your blog stand out. When I went blog-hopping to observe about blog banners, I noted many things that made my own rules in making one.

I’ve seen the different types of banners and what kind of bloggers and blogs use them. Many blogs that really wants all those attention gets to go grand and end up having really awesome or unforgettable blog banners. Blogs who have these kind of banners are usually (and obviously) those whose bloggers are into art or designing. A great thing about this is really the impact on readers. It does stand out really. Even me can’t still forget the blogs with great banners that I saw myself.

Warning!

But then, I saw the danger. Sometimes, the great banners steal ALL the attention. You could go on a blog with a really great header and end up remembering the banner alone. Not the content, the blogger or anything about the blog, just the banner. You see the problem?

My Say

I strongly recommend that you restrain yourself from making these majestic banners and try not to go overboard. If you study other pro blogs out there (I did), you’ll see that they just have a banner with the blog name, a logo or a mantra, some photo enhancements and be done with it. That way, the reader will move on reading the content than continue getting awed by the banner.

It’s a great way of telling your readers that they should check out the contents first because it’s the greatest thing in your blog that matters.
