Before anything else, you have to think about your reasons why you want to increase your comments. And no, don’t go commenting me on why I’m even asking you in the first place. Ok, seriously, you can’t just say, Liane, ‘I want more comments!’. Then I’d ask, why do you really want more comments? Would it make any difference to your blog aside from making your individual post page longer? Well of course we all know it’s not just about that right?
Getting Comments is Fun! Getting MORE Comments is Way More Fun!
I’d never imagine a single blogger out there who hates getting comments. If that person ever did exist, you gotta tell me where he lives and I’d whack him in the face. Then again, it’s just impossible to find someone who hates getting comments. Every blogger loves comments. I personally enjoy getting feedbacks from my readers, either bad or good. It doesn’t matter as long as they don’t spam right? Oh well here are my top six tips to get yourself a lot more of comments.
Tip Number 1: Will You Get that Human Verification Thing Out?! You Guys Should Seriously Try Spam Killer Instead.
I personally have gotten so sick and tired of commenting to blogs with a human verification code on the comment form. It’s like this, before somebody can comment, they have to write their name, email, website and finally the message. On top of that, some blogger would decide to put a human verification to prevent spam. It’s ok, I understand the blogger. Except for the fact that I have to make an extra effort trying to make out the letters and numbers with those pesky squiggly lines. And if I’m not on my lucky day, the code itself is a little beyond recognition. Seriously, will guys just put on a spam killer? It does a better job without giving your commentators a hard time.
Tip Number 2: Forget Comment Moderation, it’s One Big Turn-off.
Let’s put it this way, people don’t want the idea that somehow, they are not given the complete freedom in terms of their opinion. Comment moderation means that have to approve the comment before it gets under your post. It makes people think, “What if I say something negative? The blogger might just reject my comment since he moderates it.” Big turn off. If your purpose for turning on comment moderation is to prevent spam, just please go for a spam killer. But, if your real purpose is to block out negative comments, then you really have a problem. Comments, either positive or negative is completely healthy for any blog. So whatever happens, turn off that comment moderation.
Tip Number 3: Express! Giving Opinions is the Way to Get Comments.
In the real world, things like editorials, talk shows, debates and media discussions makes people voice out their own opinions. Nobody would talk if nobody would stand for anything. Remember this, when you write a post, don’t just write, express is the key!
Tip Number 4: Shed Some Humor
Aw c’mon. Who doesn’t enjoy a little piece of fun reading? People love it! It works like a charm, and it makes things a little happier than what they really are. Writing like making the news for tomorrow’s newspaper won’t take you anywhere on blogging. Inject some fun. It always works brilliantly!
Tip Number 5: Join the U Comment I Follow Movement
As you might know, bloggers participating in this movement removes no-follow tags in their comment section. So when someone comments, the website link they have typed will automatically be a free backlink to their site. Everytime I drop on Entrecard and I see the U Comment I Follow button on a blog, I always make it a point to leave their posts a message.
Tip Number 6: Finish Off With a Question or a Stand Out Statement
If you’re totally an F minus in making interesting posts, why not use this trick. I say this one is the most used and abused. You want to hear a good news? It still works. Yep, it still works. The F minus part is finishing off with a question. It’s a no-brainer but it still has its own magic. The harder counterpart is the stand out statement. That’s when you have to really think and use your writing powers.
I have used (and abused) this tips myself. I'm proud to say that from the zero comments I've been having a couple of months ago, I had gained quite a good number of responses for my every post. The comment number is not much, better that having none at all right? :)
