First of all, I just want you to know (especially if you are a blog monetizer) that this is not another anti-bloggers-who-gets-money-from-blogging post. For the record, I have not even written any of such things. I’m only an anti bloggers who do purely MFMM (Made for Money-Making) Blogs.

Recently, I have been thinking about the bad effects of blog monetizing. Most bloggers may think about this topic too. There are numerous articles out there that tells you about the bad thing monetizing can do to your blog. I’ve found some true and false statements. I have my personal opinions in them so I’m here to share these to you.

Does Blog Monetizing REALLY Cheapens Your Content?

I think that this one shouldn’t be generalized to all the monetizing networks. Sure, when I see a blog with Google Adsense Ads plastered all over it, I would go react something like ‘that is so cheap’. I’m not saying Google Adsense Ads makes a cheaper-looking blog, it depends on how you manage your ads and try to make it as cleaner-looking as possible. Blog monetizing doesn’t really cheapen your content (unless you got a freaky advertisement hater as a visitor, they’re rare so who cares?). It just depends to your ability to blend ads, or your guts to monetize.

Ever Heard Of The Ability To Blend Ads?

Even if you have lots of different advertisements on your blog as long as you know how to properly blend them in your blog and content, it could sometimes be left unnoticed (or less obvious). My favorite example is Mr. dot com mogul. You know who Mr. dot com mogul is? Well, you usually know him as John Chow, JC if you’re a little bit close. Do me a favor and got to www.johnchow.com. Now, identify his numerous advertisements, can you figure out how many types of advertisements he used to make money from his blog?

It ranges from the different advert logos and banners, the peal ads on the topmost corner, the pop-up ads on the top banner (follows even when you scroll down), the TTZ deals on the post footer (or was that Amazon deals?), the recommended moneymakers which are (I presume) his partnership deals, the bought links under the featured sites either by direct contact or thru Text Link Ads, the affiliate links all over the blog, let’s not forget the, numerous paid reviews bought thru ReviewMe and other things that he (you know who) has skillfully blended as to prevent you from noticing (or discovering).

You see the beauty of the ability to blend ads now? I bet you like it, so you better learn it.

But My Favorite Is Still In-Your-Face Monetizing

Some blogs seem to follow this mantra: “This blog is monetized and it looks exactly what it’s supposed to look like- a monetized blog”. Try visit blogs like www.engadget.com, www.mashable.com, and www.techcrunch.com maybe. When they monetized their blogs, they really did, and they didn’t care about the whiners. You could see all the advert banners on their sidebars and they didn’t care if it was obvious already for visitors to notice. When they monetize their blogs, they did. No point in trying to hind or conceal anything right?

Sometimes, We Tend To Forget The Good Side Of Advertising…

…and yes, there’s a good side of advertising. Advertising enables us go to great offers and sites that we won’t even encounter when we rely to search engine results. Then again, there’s the bad side of abusing the power of advertising. We people just see bad things more often, or it’s just human instinct that we notice these bad things before we even get the chance to grasp the good ones.
