Disclaimer: thanks to The Bad Blogger for sharing his views. The title might get misleading but please don't get carried away. This is to notify that this article is not a "fabricated controversy" with any intentions of just raising traffic and comment numbers. It is strictly against my blogging principle so I won't do that. To stress, this is written in the manner of utilizing pure 'observation'.
I recently went into my archives to scour four old posts which I could recreate again. Really, they were nothing but old, dating back probably to the time when I can still label myself as "newbie". Now, I am looking behind and into the future. I have taught blogging tips for as long as I could remember. But of course, it was just recently that what I've been saying is taken into a great deal of consideration.
Rereading my old works, I found a handlful of timeless pieces which are still handy to be sharing right now. But for the rest, it kind of shocked me. Of course, it is expected that with the fast-pace of the net, most info gets outdated, obsolete and worthless easily. But for those Blogging Tips I had that are still useful to date, it was kinda depressing to note that I'm not even applying it anymore.
Observing around the blogosphere, I came to see that other bloggers are into the same situation. We do not really neccessarily practice eveything we preach.
I'm Sick and Tired Of Mentioning John Chow
I've been mentioning him for as long as I can remember. He is, one of my insprations afterall. To think of it, he may have already garnered more links from this blog than any other Blogging Tips blog. Not that I mind.
Well, John Chow today is frankly, disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater (fan here in fact). My career had probabaly been kickstarted from reading JC. It's from him I learned the value of writing regularly, of never giving up, of producing quality after quality. Yes, JC and not Darren which is my case.
Visiting back and forth at JC every week, I always end up clicking the top x button with a heavy feeling. It's sad. I don't get to read any good articles anymore. Sure, there are some once in a while, but if it's not 'special offer', it might probabaly be another one of his 500USD worth review.
Where Did All he Good Stuff Went?
I Also Checked on Alvin Phang's Gather Success
It seemed like an irony. While he created the ever-famous Atomic Blogging, every time I go to his blog, I can't find any tip that is really really exciting to read. Count to that the fact that I read a post about how he's sad to be receiving so little comments on his posts in contrast to his overwhelming page view count.
Aside From Money, Is Gather Success Really Gathering Success?
The posts are not lengthy and fully-detailed, there are smiley faces everywhere, and this week, he posted about making a cheescake. Where does that come from? I don't know. From this observation, I came to a conclusion that we usually generalize people as successful if they are making money online. Quality blog with a 100usd per month? Okay. Medium quality blog with 10,000usd per month? Now that's a pro as we assume.
I May Be Bias
Sure, my blogging tips niche might be bias because JC and Alvin are both on the make money online side, but isn't that the point of what their blog about? To "Teach People How To Make Money Online By Teaching Them How I Make Money Online" and to "Gather Success"?
How Many Bloggers Are Practicing What They Preach?
If I subject it to rationalization (excluding the money earned), maybe I can only point to two sure probloggers, Maki of DoshDosh and Darren Rowse of Pro Blogger. But both bloggers are not in-depth when venturing on the make money online side. They just keep writing top-notch content after top-notch content.
Everything I mentioned just makes me think, will I be able to achive the best of both worlds without compromising my readers into really trusting that I use what I teach?
Perhaps, only time will tell.
